What’s Your Season Of Life?
A few days ago, I wrote a poem. Now, this is not a new thing for me as I have been writing poetry since I was about 10 years old and published a book of poetry, called Reflections In Verse, when I was 19. I have also had some of my poems published in a couple of different magazines and in an anthology. I have always loved the changing of the seasons and can find many things to like about all of them. So here it is:
Of The Season’s Changing
I love the open prairies, I love the forest land, I love the roaring ocean and the desert’s burning sand.
From the jagged peaks of mountains to the cooling valley floor, from the gentle breeze that whispers to the howling tempest roar,
From the chatter of the monkeys through the steaming jungle leaves, to the gentle sound of crickets on those moonlit summer eves,
From the first cool day of Autumn to the deepest Winter snow, to the gushing green of Springtime, I love them all, I know!
Every season is a treasure, every day has much to give, every second has potential and a chance to really live.
However, if I were to pick one season as my favorite it would be the Fall. I truly enjoy the crisp air, the changing and brilliant colors of the deciduous trees, the smell of a campfire in the early morning air, the simmering of a stew in the evening and the peacefulness of laying next to the fire and being at rest in my heart and body.
Indeed, being at peace is one of the reasons that many of us seek out the wilderness places where people seldom travel, to be alone in God’s creation, among His creatures and to feel the healing power of nature slowly soothe away the aches of the daily grind of living.
Spiritually speaking, being at peace is not some simple task. Many things overwhelm us and we often carry those burdens with us into the wilderness. We find it very challenging to be able to be at rest when there are so many demands on our time and attention. We must learn to step aside from our duties for a time and allow ourselves to rest. In the Bible, after a period of exhausting ministry, Jesus tells his disciples to ” Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while…” Mark 6:31a He knew the importance of recharging one’s spiritual self and would often go alone into the mountains to find a place to recuperate and pray.
We go through many changes in our lives and the seasons of our lives change as well as we go from childhood to the teenage years, to adulthood, to retirement and finally into old age. Our calling or occupation can take on a different focus depending on the season of our life and God’s Plan for us during that season. Therefore, it is always important to be continually seeking God’s leadership in our lives. What does He want you to do today? This week? This month? This year? This season of your life? He does indeed have a perfect plan for you right now and for the rest of your life. That plan may, and probably will, take on different aspects as you age physically and mature spiritually in your faith.
So, what’s your season? Where are you right now? Seek His counsel and find out. Because whether it’s your favorite season or not, He loves you and wants to use you to be a blessing and an encouragement to others!
