What If.....
This is how the average person begins to get interested in becoming prepared for what might happen. No one thinks it odd that we should carry car insurance, home insurance, health insurance or life insurance etc. It is to deal with the “What if…..” scenarios. For many of us something occurs to us personally or we hear about someone else that was in a situation, and they/we could have survived better if they had been prepared a little beforehand. So we begin to read and study, watch YouTube videos and start purchasing supplies and practicing skills to face what might happen.
For instance, if you live on the East Coast of the United States or on the Gulf of Mexico, it isn’t thought strange if you have made preparation for hurricanes. Or if you live in a flood zone, it isn’t thought strange to have flood insurance. People who purchase car insurance don’t plan on ever having an accident, they just realize that it does happen and that statistically, it could happen to them. You may be the safest driver ever, but you cannot control other drivers or that patch of black ice ahead. For those of us who love the outdoors, we think it’s wise to get some training and practice the skills necessary for survival should we get lost, injured or have to spend an unexpected night in the wilderness. For us, it is a form of insurance to be prepared to survive the “What if” things that might happen.
For Believers, we know that we will surely face death and Judgement. It is the reason that we give our hearts and lives to the Lord. We are making preparations for eternity. For those of us that take the Bible seriously, we realize that without forgiveness of sins we won’t be able to go to Heaven, but will spend eternity in Hell. Some people say that a loving God wouldn’t send humans to Hell, but in reality, we send ourselves to Hell. The truth is, a loving God would send His Only Begotten Son to die on a cross in our place so we wouldn’t have to go to Hell! The Judgement spoken of in the Scriptures is where we are judged for all the deeds we have done while we were alive on earth as well as whether or not we accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour and then lived for Him. The question everyone needs to answer is: ” What if I die today without being forgiven of my sins?” Death is not something that may or may not happen to you. We carry different kinds of insurance because something might statistically happen to us. We get training and practice to survive disaster. We purchase supplies and desired to be prepared for storms, hurricanes and floods. However, death comes to all of us, it is a sure thing. In all your preparations, have you prepared for eternity? What if…..
