Staying Hydrated
While I was out yesterday setting up the compass courses for the upcoming class, June 15-17, 2017, I made sure to bring along with me my single wall, non-insulated, stainless steel bottle full of water. Indeed, as I trekked through the woods and across the fields, it was so refreshing to be able to take a drink now and then.
In survival, as I wrote in an earlier post, water is life. Without water, we soon begin to suffer from faulty judgement and lack of energy and if we go long enough without it, in the range of three days or so, we will die! Knowing how to find or make potable water (water safe for drinking) is one of the best skills you can own. It’s no fun being thirsty.
For the Believer, Jesus promised us in John 4:14 that salvation would be a well of water springing up within us and in John 7:38 that out of our innermost being would flow rivers of living water! It’s one thing to be thirsty for water as you hike the hills, valleys and forests, it’s entirely a different matter to be spiritually thirsty. Without God, nothing will satisfy your inner thirst. You will try all manner of sin but without satisfaction. It will only leave you thirsty and yet oddly enough, you will want to try more sin in the effort to slake your spiritual thirst. So, the remedy on this Pentecost Sunday, is to let Jesus save you from all your sin and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Then your thirst will be forever quenched by the Living Stream of Water that flows from deep within! Jesus calls out in Revelation 22:17 to all those who are thirsty, “Come to me and drink and partake freely of the Water of Life”
